Photo of Kilmnans CottageKilnman Cottage is situated at Grindley, on the edge of Pierowall Bay on the island of Westray, Orkney. The Orkney Islands lie to the north of Scotland, separated from mainland Britain by the Pentland Firth.

The cottage is located next to two former grain mills, one of which is now used as a house. The smaller mill dates from the early 18th century, the larger was built in the late 19th century. Kilnman cottage has its own small sheltered garden, ideal for sitting out in the long summer evenings. Weather permitting of course, we Westray Potteryare, after all, in Orkney! Car parking is available right next to the cottage, with level access.

The cottage is within easy walk of Pierowall village, which has two general grocery stores, a café, and a hotel.   The island also boasts a designer knitwear shop, Hume Sweet Hume, and two art galleries, the Wheeling Steen and Westray Art Gallery.   Westray Pottery is situated just up the lane from Kilnman’s cottage, and visitors are welcome to view pottery making demonstrations by Martin the potter.    There is a children’s play park in the village, and motor tours of the island can be arranged through Westraak located in the Haff Yok café.
